Message from our Management Team

“We are going to get through this together. We are either going to have to hold each other tighter or yell a little louder, but we will get through this together, as a community that is #TahltanStrong.” Feddie Louie, Director, Tahltan Emergency Operations Centre

“After receiving the news on the Evacuation Order of Lower Post last night, our thoughts and prayers are with the Kaska Nation.” Shana Dennis, Tahltan Band Manager

Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Key Messages

The EOC is still running out of Dease Lake 7 days a week (9-5) staffed by the Tahltan Band, Emergency Management BC and the Regional District of Kitimat/Stikine 250-771-5050.

The Telegraph Creek Region is still in a state of emergency and the evacuation order is still in effect.

Community Update will be taking place tonight, August 22nd at the Dease Lake Community Hall at 8:00 pm.

All evacuees in Dease Lake on Emergency Social Services (ESS) to go to the Haven on Friday August 24th to renew their status.

Telegraph Creek Wildfires

“Yesterday we experienced extreme fire behavior due to strong winds at lower and higher elevations. These winds created columns of smoke which initiated further aggressive fire behaviour causing the Muddy Lake fire to merge with the Alkali Lake fire. Some fire growth occurred to the north and this growth will be assessed today. All protection near Glenora, Telegraph Creek, cabins on south of Stikine river and along the Highway 51 corridor remains in place and has continue to protect these areas. The guard near 70 km was breached, so fire crews will be focused on re-establishing protections in that area.”  Heather Rice, Fire Information Officer

A detailed update on the Alkali Lake fire can be found HERE.

Evacuee Housing

The EOC team is working hard to secure temporary housing in Dease Lake for evacuees. More updates will come as details are confirmed.
