This July, the Cultural & Literacy Camps in Glenora returned to the Tahltan Band community for two meaningful weeks of culture, learning, and connection. Held on July 14–18 and July 21–25, the camps welcomed Tahltan children and families from across and beyond the Territory to come together and share traditional knowledge, language, and fun.
Cultural Camp: July 14–18, 2025
With 50 Tahltan children registered, the camp was full of energy, curiosity, and tradition. It has become a favourite summer gathering for our children—second only to their own family fish camps.
Activities included:
- Drum making
- Fish cutting and smoking
- Tahltan storytelling and language learning
- Soapberry picking
- Painting and reading
We were proud to welcome children visiting from outside the Territory, and we loved seeing familiar faces return from past years to make new memories.

Literacy Camp: July 21–25, 2025
The second camp carried the same spirit of learning and celebration. We were happy to welcome back Uncle David Brown, who previously helped with camp maintenance, for a special visit.
Highlights of the camp included:
- Net mending with Brian Monstad
- A moving salmon ceremony on the riverbank led by Kitty Brown, Huey Carlick, and Nan Nole
- A prayer circle with Dempsey Bob

The Tahltan Cultural & Literacy Camps in Glenora continues to be a beloved gathering space for our community—rooted in language, land, and the strength of shared experience. A big thank-you to our incredible staff, hardworking cooks and attendants, and everyone who made the camps possible.
We extend our sincere thanks to Newmont, Tudor Gold, Teck Resources, Skeena Gold + Silver, Coast Mountain Hydro, Galore Creek Mining Corporation and KSM Mining ULC for their sponsorship and commitment to supporting the Tahltan Band community ❤️.
