As part of the Culture and Language Program, two important harvests took place in September to prepare for Tahltan Day and to honour our traditions.
Medicine Harvest – September 15, Level Mountain
On September 15, Verna Vance, Dennis Quock, and Margaret Asp travelled to Level Mountain to harvest Hodsih Klawnah (caribou leaves). This traditional medicine is cherished by Elders in our community for its healing properties, and bundles were gathered both for local Elders and as gifts for Tahltan Day. Dennis shared a story of harvesting medicine for his late grandmother, Doreen Dennis, in the very same spot — a powerful reminder of our connection to the land and our ancestors.

Moose Harvest – Summit Mountain
A moose was harvested for Tahltan Day through the Culture and Language Program, shot by Pat Carlick Jr. on Summit Mountain. The moose was brought back to the Rec Hall, where Verna Vance, Isabel Reid, Effie Reid, Gerldine Quock, and Keisha Erickson worked together to prepare and preserve the meat. This harvest will be shared at Tahltan Day celebrations and Elders’ luncheons.

Both harvests reflect the strength of our traditions, the generosity of our people, and the importance of sharing and carrying forward the knowledge passed down through our community.
