The Social Development Department strives to uphold the Tahltan Band’s mandate, to oversee the matters for Tahltan Band members who live on reserve and provide support for band members who live off the reserve to access programs created by and/or administered by the Band.

Income Assistance Program
This program is designed to help our members that reside on reserve who require income assistance when they are unable to acquire meaningful employment for a period. Through this programming dollars, we also assist our members to gain employment and education objectives.

Assisted Living Program
This program provides funding for non-medical social support services. It includes Home maker services which provides financial assistance for non-medical personal care for adults who need assistance for daily living. These services range from housekeeping, meal preparation and attendant care to community supports such as adult care, meals on wheels, psycho-social programs, short-term respite care for caregivers and non-health transportation.

It is important to note these services do not include major home repairs. Essentially, the objective of the Homemaker Services program is to support and enhance the dignity and independence of physically disabled, mentally disabled, or elderly adults, and to assist them to remain in their own communities with family and friends and to avoid institutionalization.
