The Tahltan Band Council would like to make you aware of the potential risk of an outburst flood occurring below the rock slide site located approximately 1000 m above the Tahltan River Bridge.
The slide has caused a reduction in flows, and as a result, the river has been backed up above the site since the event occurred on May 21, 2014.
As water levels drop, the threat decreases. The risks increase with rising water conditions. There is uncertainty at this time as to how large of a threat this is to our members camping and fishing below. We are awaiting further information and assurance from the DFO that the flood will not breach the banks, should the slide break open.
